Licorice Gourami Diet
Small fish eats tinier creatures. For the stripped gourami, the most delicious and nutritious food is aquatic invertebrates.
In the captive tank, you should be ready to find live foods, like daphnia, moina, micro worm, and mosquito larvae.
Don’t bid your luck with dried pellet. The fish will strongly refuse it.
Frozen type might be okay, but it couldn’t provide proper nutrition. Thus, it makes it a poor staple food.
Licorice Gourami Habitat
The licorice gourami lives in swamp that has tea colored and has slow moving water. There must be a lot of vegetation around the swamp to block the lights.
Bangka Belitung, Indonesia, has the perfect definition of licorice fish ideal habitat. To be exact, the river is located in Baturussak region.
You cannot expect this gourami species to adapt the tank live. It is you who must be able to provide the carbon copy of the nature environment.
Licorice Gourami Care Details
Even though this gourami species has peaceful traits, some things just cannot be changed.
You should give up any intention to put it in a community tank.
It will be aesthetically beautiful, but slowly killing the inhabitants. Licorice gourami has meticulous tank requirements.
Add as many as you like, but some owners suggest putting moderate amount of decoration only.
A tank for licorice fish should have shades. Arrange driftwood or branches so it could be the shelter as well as the spawning area.
Dried leaves would make a great top, giving off the natural feel and allowing some microbe colonies to form. This micro creature would be extra staple food for fries.
Mimick the original water by providing soft but acidic water. You could implement water osmosis or the other familiar system to obtain soft water.
The next step is to add acid substance. You could sprinkle phosporic acid but not natural peat.
It will contaminate waters and environment. Set temperature to 22 to 28 degree Celcius.
The fish listed in the same genus usually has similarity. In this case, the licorice creature prefers to have dim lighting.
Even though most water plants could not survive in this condition, you still have several choices like microsorum or taxiphyllum.
Another important note about this species is fixed schedule and precise calculation.
The licorice fish cannot stand dirty water as well as water drastic change. Make sure you have one day scheduled to clean the water.
Change around 5-10% water of the tank volume.
